Reports suggest Liverpool are willing to pay a large sum to sign Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller amid his impressive displays in the Bundesliga.
Described by Breaking the Lines as “the diamond of the Bundesliga”, Stiller is making a name for himself and could be in line for a move to the Premier League this summer.
Liverpool are certain to be busy this summer as Arne Slot gets ready to sell any players that have failed to win him over. The Dutch coach will make this Liverpool squad his own as he brings in players that match his tactical philosophy.
Jurgen Klopp left a lot of talent behind but although the two coaches have very similar identities, Slot’s style of play is not as intense and gung-ho as Klopp’s was. Slot prefers control over chaos which will play a large role in determining which players are signed this summer.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Liverpool are looking at Stiller given his exploits in Germany this season.
“Liverpool ready to pay €60million for” Angelo Stiller
According to a report from Spanish news outlet Fichajes, “Liverpool are preparing a massive offer” to sign Angelo Stiller from Stuttgart when the summer transfer window opens.
They report: “Liverpool are already working on the upcoming transfer window and have their sights set Angelo Stiller
“The Reds’ sporting director, along with new manager Arne Slot, have identified the German international as an ideal candidate to add balance and clarity to the midfield.
“In Germany, Stuttgart is aware of the player’s value and won’t let him leave easily. Initial figures being floated are around €60 million, a high amoun.
“Arne Slot has expressed his enthusiasm to the board at the prospect of adding Stiller to the project. The ball is now in the Anfield club’s court, which must decide whether to take the final step toward signing a player who could mark an era in the Premier League if he adapts as expected.”
Data from FBref underlines why Liverpool are reportedly keen on Stiller.
The 24-year-old plays an average of 9.63 progressive passes per game, placing him in the 98th percentile of all midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues.
Not only does he break the lines with regularity, he also ranks in the 92nd percentile for most key passes per 90 minutes with an average of 1.9. For example, Trent Alexander-Arnold averages 1.79 key passes per game.
Liverpool could do a whole lot worse than Stiller.
