Liverpool are said to be confident of completing the signing of RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons this summer, according to a fresh transfer claim.
The Reds continue to be linked with attacking reinforcements at the end of the season, even though Mohamed Salah is on the verge of signing a new contract.
It would arguably be a surprise if all of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez were still at Liverpool when the 2025/26 campaign gets underway.
According to a new update from Caught Offside, the Reds are “confident” of “winning the race” to sign Leipzig ace Simons, having been linked with him of late.
Liverpool could be able to sign him for £60.8m, with the report stating that that is the current asking price, with Manchester City also interested in acquiring his signature.
Simons a strong versatile option for Liverpool
There are clear benefits to Liverpool signing Simons, who has enjoyed a good season for Leipzig, bagging 12 goal contributions (seven goals and five assists) in the Bundesliga this term.
At just 21, he has most of his career ahead of him, while his versatility allows him to thrive across several positions, from attacking midfield to both wide positions. Meanwhile, former teammate Dani Olmo has heaped praise on him, saying:
“Xavi is a different player. He has shown that so far in the time he has been here. We connect really well on the pitch but he can also do things on his own. He has an amazing dribbling technique, finishing as well. He’s a really complete player and for us, for our system, for how we play, our ideas, the coaches’ ideas, it is perfect for us. Now he’s in a really good mood, in a really good shape so this is very helpful.”
Simons is already a 26-cap Netherlands international, scoring a brilliant goal against England in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 last summer, so there are so many positives to Liverpool signing him.
H could provide more guile than Dominik Szoboszlai in the No.10 role, as well as battling the likes of Salah, Diaz and Cody Gakpo for minutes out wide.
