Liverpool may look to replace Luis Diaz in the summer if they do not extend the Colombian’s contract beyond next summer and Atalanta star Ademola Lookman is a potential target to take his place.
The summer transfer window is expected to be a busy one for Liverpool and one player that could feature heavily is Luis Diaz. The former Porto star was electric at the start of the season but has just one goal in 2025 and his contract extension is not currently a priority for Liverpool.
His representatives want Liverpool to deal with the situation immediately but with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold almost in the last three months of their respective deals, negotiation an extension for Diaz just isn’t a priority for the FSG right now.
This has led to speculation that Diaz could finally make his move to Barcelona and reports in Spain are now talking about Liverpool’s options to replace the 28-year-old.

Liverpool have set their sights on Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz this summer, according to Fichajes.
The winger reportedly has a poor relationship with manager Gian Piero Gasperini “which could accelerate his departure” and with his contract in Italy up in 2026, the summer is the best opportunity Atalanta have of receiving a fee. He joined the club in 2022 for an undisclosed fee so it’s difficult to predict how much he might cost.
After winning Man of the Match in the 2024 Europa League final after scoring a hattrick, Lookman’s stock soared and Liverpool among others began paying close attention.

It all depends on what Arne Slot’s vision for this Liverpool team is and whether or not Mohamed Salah is staying at the club. If he leaves, Liverpool should keep him but if Salah stays, then Liverpool should sell Darwin Nunez and Diaz to fund a move for a top no.9.
Someone like Alexander Isak could elevate Liverpool to greater heights and given Diaz doesn’t even get to play in his preferred position, it’s pretty clear Slot prefers Cody Gakpo.
