Luis Diaz has made it perfectly clear that he wants a new Liverpool contract after comments to a Colombian radio station.
Arne Slot is gearing up for his second summer transfer window as Liverpool boss and after signing only Federico Chiesa before the start of this season, it is highly likley we see a lot more movement when the window reopens in June.
The Reds have just two Premier League games to go but given the players are receiving a lot more time off given the title is already in the bag, it’s fair to say that Liverpool’s pre-season preparation has already begun.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher are the three players set to leave the club but another linked with an exit until recently is Luis Diaz.
The Colombian, however, has made it clear he wants a new deal after reports last week suggested that Liverpool will open new contract talks with him when the season ends amid interest from Barcelona.
Luis Diaz makes bold and rarely seen play for new Liverpool contract with public statement
According to comments relayed by Telemundo Deportes, via Colombian news outlet Caracol Radio, Diaz is determined to renew his contract with Liverpool and stay at Anfield beyond this season. The 28-year-old is under contract with the Reds until June 30 2027.
“Yes, happy. From the first day I arrived, I’ve always been happy, calm, enjoying the football played at this great team,” Diaz said.
“We’ll be talking about it, we’ll talk about it [about the renewal].”
“For me, I would stay however many years it takes, it also depends on the club, everything,” Diaz explained.
“These are details that are sorted out separately. Very calm, I’m happy and enjoying the Premier League.”
Diaz is too good to be sold but still needs to improve next season if Liverpool make him a contract offer
Diaz scored for the second successive game in the Premier League when he scored against Arsenal on Sunday and, in fact, is the continuation of his late return to form.
The former Porto star has struggle for goals in 2025 but has refound himself since the international break that followed being knocked out of the Champions League and losing the Carabao Cup final.
In his last eight games for club and country, Diaz has six goals and one assist which is the kind of form he needs to maintain next season if he wants to play out his prime years at Anfield.
Hopefully talks go smoothly and he stays at Anfield beyond 2027 as there is still plenty more to come from Lucho.
