Luis Diaz is set for contract talks with Liverpool and now reports from Spain detail how much Barcelona wanted the Colombian even if they already have Raphinha on the left wing.

Now officially a Premier League winner, Diaz seems set to stay at Anfield after reports emerged last week that Fenway Sports Group plans to sit down with the winger and his representatives to discuss a contract extension.

With his current deal set to expire in June 2027, Liverpool are keen to avoid another damaging contract situation as we witnessed this season. One positive that will come out of losing Trent Alexander-Arnold for free is that the club will likely be a lot more bullish about retaining key players.

Last week, Sky Sports reported: “Let’s just bring you some breaking news from Liverpool…the man who started the comeback [against Spurs] last Sunday was Luis Diaz, and Liverpool will hold talks about extending his contract at the club at the end of this season.”

Barcelona now set to cross Luis Diaz off their transfer shortlist for the summer

Off the back of Sky Sports’ claim that Liverpool are lining up talks with Diaz, a report now comes from Spanish news outlet Fichajes, stating that this news comes as a major blow to Barcelona.

They report: “Barcelona will have to cross a key name off its list of potential reinforcements. Luis Díaz , who had sparked interest from the Catalan club to bolster its attack, seems determined to stay at Liverpool .

“Sources in England assure that the player and the Reds will begin talks to extend his contract once the season ends.

“At Camp Nou, the interest in Díaz was real. With Deco at the helm of the sporting directorship, Barça was looking for a profile like his: fast, versatile, and capable of adapting to both winger and more attacking positions.”

Luis Diaz still has a lot to offer and now has a taste of major success with Liverpool

Until this season, Diaz had only been lucky enough to win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and while Liverpool players would love to say they won the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United, winning the Premier League is more than enough.

Diaz is now a Premier League winner and after soaking up the celebrations after full-time against Tottenham, it stands to reason he will be excited about the thought of receiving a bumper deal.

The 28-year-old reportedly earns £55,000/week and with 16 goals and eight assists this campaign, he has earned a pay raise.
