An “absolute gem” of a player has now “said yes” to completing a move to Liverpool this summer, with “active talks” ongoing over the switch.

Time is running out for the Reds to get some late business over the line, with the summer transfer window slamming shut next Monday evening.

A new centre-back and centre forward are the priorities for Liverpool between now and then, with Marc Guehi and Alexander Isak the primary options in those respective positions.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to claim that the Premier League champions are still in “active talks” over the signing of Guehi, with the Crystal Palace player saying “yes” to a move to Anfield:

“Understand Liverpool remain in active talks to sign Marc Guehi immediately. LFC are ready to pay over £30m now to get the deal done… but it depends on Crystal Palace. If Palace find replacement and let him go, Guehi already said yes to the Reds.”

A vital piece of business to get done

Guehi has been the ideal centre-back addition for Liverpool all summer, with the England international possessing plenty of experience at the highest level, but also still years ahead of him to reach further gears.

The 25-year-old could even come straight in as Virgil van Dijk’s defensive partner, given Ibrahima Konate’s patchy form, with Michael Beale once heaping praise on him, saying:

“He shows a huge amount of confidence to play on the left side and his technical upbringing from Chelsea means he can use his left foot, albeit he is dominant on his right foot. When you see the teams line up, he’s not the biggest centre-back but he has a huge leap. Quietly people are realising we have an absolute gem in him.”

Hopefully, Liverpool manage to strike a deal for Guehi in the coming days, strengthening in a vital position and acquiring the services of a top-quality international player.
