Sporting director Richard Hughes is earning his keep as he closes in on a second summer signing as Bournemouth left back Milos Kerkez nears a switch to Anfield.

Liverpool have already announced the capture of Bayer Leverkusen right back Jeremie Frimpong, who has been signed to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold while talks remain underway to sign the superb Florian Wirtz as well.

Frimpong will likely soon be joined by Kerkez as Arne Slot upgrades both flanks of his defence to bolster Liverpool’s chances of retaining the Premier League title after winning it for the second time in five years.

The Reds have a chance to build a dynasty given the weakness displayed by their domestic rivals this season and adding 21-year-0ld Kerkez is a very strong step in the right direction.

Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Milos Kerkez

Liverpool have already reached an agreement with Kerkez over personal terms and the only remaining thing to do is finalise and agreement with Bournemouth over the young defender’s transfer fee.

Reporting via YouTube, Fabrizio Romano says that Kerkez “cannot wait to become a Liverpool player.”

“Who is really appreciated at Liverpool is Milos Kerkez, and I’m insisting on this one, guys, because I expect this deal to advance in the next days, also between clubs,” Romano reports.

“Agreement done with the player. The agreement between Liverpool and Kerkez is done. The contract is ready. Everything is okay. The player can’t wait to become a Liverpool player.

“The player is really convinced about the Liverpool project. So the feeling is very positive. Liverpool and Bournemouth are discussing, but the understanding is that this deal is advancing behind the scenes.”

Kerkez is exactly what Liverpool need at left-back after Robertson and Tsimikas missed their opportunity

Both Robertson and Tsimikas had an opportunity this season to make the left-back role their own. What actually happened was both players alternated proving why they are not the right fit for Slot at left-back long term.

The result is that Tsimikas is set to be sold while Robertson will compete for a spot against Kerkez. There is no denying Robbo’s experiene and leadership remain valuable to Liverpool but he will certainly not play more minutes than the young Hungarian.

Liverpool now have a hungry and energetic option at left-back with Conor Bradley and Frimpong on the other flank to provide balance and pace to Mohamed Salah in attack.
