Liverpool are close to completing a Premier League transfer record deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and will follow that by signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
As soon as Liverpool won the Premier League with a 5-1 win over Spurs in late April, the club’s focus turned to ensuring they would be ready to defend it come the start of the next season.
The first step was to correct a failure to retain Trent Alexander-Arnold which they did very quickly with a bargain move to sign Jeremie Frimpong.
From there, they made sure to beat Manchester City and favourites Bayern Munich to Wirtz. While negotiations with Leverkusen have taken far longer than for Frimpong, the deed was done as soon as the player made it clear he wanted Liverpool and nobody else.
Now, with an agreement and announcement imminent, Liverpool will turn their attention back to completing a deal with Bournemouth for the exciting and young Kerkez.
A £45m deal to sign Kerkez is “the next one that is going to happen for Liverpool”
Liverpool are set to complete a deal to sign Milos Kerkez for their third signing of the summer, reports Fabrizio Romano on YouTube, after weeks of contact with the player’s agent.
“The next one that is going to happen for Liverpool is Milos Kerkez,” Romano reports.
“So get ready Liverpool fans because maybe today they can tell you about a club to club first contact.
“No – Liverpool and Bournemouth have been speaking for weeks.
“Liverpool and the agent of Kerkez have been speaking for weeks. So the next one is going to be Milos Kerkez.”
Liverpool will pay a fee in the region of £45m for Kerkez with Bournemouth not prepared to offer their former sporting director Richard Hughes any kind of discount.
In this case, there will be no sentimentality for the best team in England and given Liverpool are widely reported to be on the verge of breaking the all-time Premier League transfer record, the Cherries are aware that the Reds are flush with cash and they want their fair share.
In exchange, Liverpool will receive the best left-back in the league based on this season’s evidence.
Kostas Tsimikas is likely to be sold to make room for the Hungarian while Andy Robertson will stay to fight it out with Kerkez for a starting spot in Arne Slot’s starting XI.
