Liverpool are very close to signing Milos Kerkez as the young defender will complete part of his medical today with a £40m agreement already in place with Bournemouth.

After winning the Premier League, Liverpool are moving very aggressively in the transfer market and have already signed Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The club’s total outlay is reportedly set to exceed £200m with any further activity this summer as Arne Slot now looking well placed to defend his maiden English league title regardless of the signings Arsenal and Manchester City manage to make this summer.

Kerkez is a huge upgrade on Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas and his arrival means Liverpool have left-back covered for the next five years at least.

Milos Kerkez will complete first part of his medical today and the second tomorrow

According to the Athletic‘s David Ornstein, Liverpool are taking Milos Kerkez through his medical today while Florian Plettenberg reports that the medical has two parts with the second scheduled for tomorrow.

Ornstein writes:”Milos Kerkez set to fly into UK from Belgrade & undergo medical today ahead of completing transfer from Bournemouth to Liverpool.

“21 year-old AFCB left-back joining LFC for ~£40m & Hungary international expected to sign 5yr contract at Anfield.”

Liverpool have left-back sorted for several years to come

Kerkez’s arrival at Anfield means the Reds are likely sorted in that department for a long time.

There will need to be a further signing in the department in the future, however. Kostas Tsimikas is leaving this summer but when Robertson leaves further down the line, Liverpool will need another left-back to replace him but that’s a problem for the future.

Having just been named in the Premier League Team of the Season, it’s actually quite impressive that Liverpool managed to sign him for just £40m which will likely help take the pressure off somewhat.

Having Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool – Kerkez’s Hungary national teammate and close friend – will also be crucial in helping the 21-year-old settle into the team seamlessly.

Arne Slot has always preferred rapid fullbacks and now with Kerkez and Frimpong, we will see how his system looks in his mind for the first time.

Kerkez will also interact a lot with Florian Wirtz down the left flank which is an exciting combination to look forward to.
