Mohamed Salah is “absolutely open to staying at Liverpool” and his agent is in fresh contract talks with sporting director Richard Hughes as the Reds approach a key window to renew the Egyptian’s contract.

The Egyptian is the best player in the world at the moment and can really do no wrong this season. But Liverpool are at risk of losing him for free when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Contract talks are ongoing but the ball is firmly in Liverpool’s court. FSG are faced with the choice between offering Mohamed Salah more money or the backlash when they let him go for free at his peak.

Nothing would enrage Liverpool supporters more than Salah leaving in his prime years when he was happy to stay and continue dominating the right wing for years to come.

A new report reveals that Salah’s agent is in fresh talks with the club over renewing Salah’s terms for another few years.

Mohamed Salah is “absolutely open to staying at Liverpool”

According to a report from Caught Offside, Liverpool are in talks with Ramy Abbas, Salah’s agent, and the winger is determined to stay at Anfield and continue the success he has enjoyed at Anfield.

The report reads: “Sources close to CaughtOffside have advanced that Salah’s agent is, in fact, continuing new contract negotiations with the Reds.

“Indeed, the 32-year-old is absolutely open to staying if Liverpool improve their terms.

“Very simply, at this stage of negotiations, the player wants an uplift on his current weekly salary…

“Negotiations have intensified in recent days per reports from sources, and Salah’s recent celebration – patting the Liverpool emblem after scoring at Everton – was the most obvious sign that he wants to stay at the club.”

Liverpool would be making a grave mistake not renewing Salah’s contract

Salah has 47 goals and assists this season (28 goals, 19 assists) and is leading Europe’s race for the Golden Boot. Should Liverpool win the Premier League and the Champions League, Salah will be the strong favourite to win the Ballon d’Or.

Do Liverpool really want to risk losing such a talent when he’s desperate to stay?

Even if you concede that Salah is asking for too much money (we don’t actually know how much), the logical next question is: would it be cheaper to pay him what he wants or to replace him?

For me, it’s a no-brainer.
