Liverpool are in a race against time to secure Mohamed Salah’s future, with the winger’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Despite ongoing speculation, there have been positive indications that Salah could sign a new deal at Anfield. However, recent reports from Spain suggest that the Egyptian superstar may be looking elsewhere.

According to Sport, Salah has offered himself to Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window, despite the Catalan club’s well-documented financial struggles.

While Barcelona have long admired Salah, their current financial constraints make a potential deal highly complicated.

Barcelona move unlikely due to financial struggles

Barcelona’s interest in Salah is not new. The La Liga giants have been linked with the Liverpool forward multiple times in the past, with the club viewing him as a marquee signing to lead their attack.

However, their ongoing economic issues make a move difficult, as they would struggle to match Salah’s current salary at Liverpool – let alone offer him the lucrative final contract of his career.

Reports also suggest that Barcelona are monitoring Luis Díaz, potentially as a more affordable alternative, meaning their strategy could shift if Salah remains committed to leaving Anfield.

Saudi Arabia remains a strong option

While Barcelona may struggle to fund a move, Salah continues to attract significant interest from the Saudi Pro League. Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Saudi clubs remain determined to sign him, with an offer expected this summer.

If Salah is looking for a financially rewarding final chapter of his career, Saudi Arabia presents a far more realistic option than Barcelona.

Clubs in the region have the resources to offer a contract that surpasses his current Liverpool deal, making them strong contenders should he decide to leave.

Liverpool’s dilemma: Secure a new deal or risk losing Salah for free

Liverpool’s priority remains extending Salah’s contract. With the winger still performing at the highest level – leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot and Playmaker awards – losing him on a free transfer would be a massive blow.

The Reds must now accelerate negotiations if they want to keep their talisman at Anfield. However, with every passing day without an agreement, the possibility of Salah seeking a move away grows stronger.

Whether that leads him to Spain, Saudi Arabia, or a last-minute renewal with Liverpool remains to be seen.
