Morgan Gibbs-White will consider leaving Nottingham Forest this summer if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League after losing to Brentford midweek.
Your heart has to break for Forest after they spent most of the season inside the top four and look destined to return to the Champions League for the first time since 1980 when Brian Clough was in charge.
After a 2-0 loss to Brentford on Thursday, Forest are now 6th and need Chelsea and Newcastle United to drop points in order to sneak back into the Champions League qualification spots.
And this tension is placing the club in danger of losing Morgan Gibbs-White, according to reports.
Liverpool target Morgan Gibbs-White could leave Notts Forest this summer
Graeme Bailey reports for TBR Football that the English midfielder will consider leaving Forest if they finish outside the top four.
The 25-year-old has been critical to Forest’s winning form this season but with his stock rising both in England and Europe, Gibbs-White could be set to leave the club after three years at the City Ground.
With five goals and nine asssits in the Premier League this season, it’s clear to see why Liverpool are keeping a close eye on his situation.
Bailey reports: “The 25-year-old midfielder has been instrumental to Forest’s success this season. However, with only two years left on his current deal, interest is growing from several top Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City.
“Morgan Gibbs-White will consider his options this summer if they fail to land a Champions League spot. Interest in the player is growing with Manchester City, Liverpool and Newcastle United all aware of his situation.
“The club is also aware that their talisman is attracting serious attention — and that retaining him may prove a challenge.
“Forest view Gibbs-White in the same bracket as Jack Grealish, who joined Manchester City in a £100 million deal — and any departure would command a similar figure.”
Gibbs-White is fantastic but he is NOT worth £100million
It goes without saying but there isn’t a reality that exists in which Liverpool would sanction a £100m fee for Mogan Gibbs-White.
Not only he is not worth it but when the Reds are unwilling to spend £150m to sign Alexander Isak (understandably), why would they spend a similar amount on Gibbs-White?
Even if the player wants to leave, it seems unlikely there are any clubs around that consider that a fair price.
