As Arne Slot battles to stay on as Liverpool’s head coach this summer, a fresh claim has emerged regarding the situation with him and Mohamed Salah.
Salah’s recent social media post made it clear that he and Slot’s relationship is beyond repair, with the Reds legend making it clear that he doesn’t like his playing style, calling for a return to the “heavy metal” ways under Jurgen Klopp.
The post was also liked by a chunk of Liverpool’s squad, with Curtis Jones even responding with a thumbs-up emoji, which felt telling from the midfielder.
Now, speaking to Football Insider, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness claimed that Liverpool’s players don’t feel enamoured with Slot currently:
“Salah’s been the thorn in Arne Slot’s side all the way through and there’s obviously talk in the dressing room that they aren’t happy with Arne Slot.
“It’s more a nod to Klopp, isn’t it? Salah used the words about heavy metal football, which Klopp was synonymous with. It’s obviously a dig at Arne Slot and the style of play that he’s asking, and the spirit and the atmosphere he’s creating in the dressing room.
“Slot doesn’t feel to me that he is a motivator in the same way that Klopp was and that’s what they’re getting at is that there isn’t that spirit and energy that’s been generated by the manager and coming from the manager. That’s what he’s getting at, and that’s what’s been clear with Liverpool. They have not been the Liverpool of the previous seasons at all.”
Will Liverpool and FSG stick with Arne Slot?
As things stand, there are no concrete claims that Liverpool and FSG will sack Slot this summer, as they lie on the verge of Champions League qualification.
If that happens, it is likely to lead to a negative reaction from many supporters, who want to see a change of head coach after such a dismal season.
Slot simply has to start next season well if he does remain in charge, because that first defeat or two early in the campaign will only lead to more dissatisfaction among the fanbase.
Should the Dutchman completely turn things around, he will deserve huge praise, but it is so hard to see that happening, and a fresh face in the dugout is far more preferable in the coming weeks and months.
