Liverpool have made a decision regarding potentially selling Mohamed Salah at the end of this season, according to a significant new update.

The Reds are in a terrible slump by their high standards, with Salah’s form one of many reasons for their struggles so far this season.

The Liverpool legend has looked a shadow of his former self, scoring only once in open play in the Premier League in 2025/26 to date, on the opening weekend at home to Bournemouth.

There are some who feel that age is simply catching up with the 33-year-old Salah, but anyone of a Reds persuasion will hope that he is just low on confidence.

Salah signed a new two-year deal at Anfield earlier this year, but a 2026 exit isn’t impossible if he continues to struggle, allowing Liverpool to avoid losing him on a free in 2027.

That said, Football Insider now report that the Reds have “no current thoughts” to sell their star winger next year, whether that be in the January transfer window or in the summer.

The update also adds that Salah “is likely to have the biggest say on his Liverpool future, due to his status around Anfield”, which hints at the Egyptian not completely ruling out a departure at the end of the current campaign.

An overreaction with Salah or a cause for concern?

Salah’s form has been so poor of late, especially compared to the world-class level he has found in the past eight years, with his use of the ball proving to be sloppy, and the goals and assists drying up.

It is important that there isn’t an overreaction, however, with all great players throughout history going through bad periods of form, including the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard before him at Anfield.

Given his age, it is only natural to wonder if Salah has peaked, though, with his pace not as electric as it once was, and his general impact in games decreasing, too.

It would be just like him to roar back into form before he departs for the Africa Cup of Nations – Arne Slot desperately needs him to – and seeing him leave next summer wouldn’t be a positive.
