Mohamed Salah is unequivocally the best player in the world right now as he continues to break record after record and it appears as though he is closing in on a Liverpool contract extension.

The Egyptian forward is the main talking point in the Premier League at the moment and for good reason. He broke so many records this week that it’s difficult to find the words for all of them.

He now has 25 goals and 16 assists in the Premier League. Salah is the first player ever to score or assist a total of 40 goals in a single season on TWO occasions. He’s officially entering ‘Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’ levels and with three months of league football to play, it’s scary to imagine what he could achieve.

Liverpool winning the league is by no means assured but so long as Salah is dragging them to the finish line, success is assured.

TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has lauded Mohamed Salah after he scored and assisted for the fourth time in five consecutive games to hand Liverpool a vital win over Manchester City on Sunday.

“Magnificent, that’s the only word to describe his performance yesterday,” McCoist said.

“He is without doubt in my opinion one of the elite players to play in the league of all time. He honestly deserves to be mentioned up there with your Henry’s and your Bergkamp’s and all those kinds of guys.

“He’s a phenomenal talent. It’s remarkable, absolutely remarkable and he’s one of the best players to grace the league.”

Liverpool close to Mohamed Salah contract breakthrough after all-timer Man City performance

A report from Fichajes claims that Liverpool and Salah “appear” to have found a breakthrough after a worrying claim from Egypt last week suggested the club had offered Salah lower wages than he’s currently earning.

They claim Liverpool and the forward “appear to have found a point of understanding” as contract talks between sporting director Richard Hughes and his agent Ramy Abbas continue. Reportedly, the Liverpool hierarchy has “worked intensively” to make sure Salah’s terms are extended.

Liverpool should soon be able to breathe a sigh of relief as “everything points” to Salah renewing his deal.

Arne Slot’s most recent comments on the matter gave little away with the manager saying: “Mo has had some outstanding seasons here at Liverpool. We hope he can continue this for a longer period of time but to do that he first has to extend his contract of course!”

He jokingly added: “And you guys don’t ask me about it anymore so that’s a positive.”
