Liverpool are acting with supreme authority at the moment as they flex their status as Champions of England with some serious moves in the transfer market.
The Premier League title had only just been confirmed when Trent Alexander-Arnold announced his decision to leave the club when his contract comes to its expiry at the end of June.
While not officially announced by either club, he will join Real Madrid on a free transfer but not even two weeks later, Liverpool reached an agreement with both Bayer Leverkusen and Jeremie Frimpong for the 24-year-old’s transfer to Anfield.
Liverpool are also in discussions with Florian Wirtz and Leverkusen for a double transfer but there are also plans in place to sign a new left-back to further advance the club’s recruitment strategy for this summer.
Kostas Tsimikas is expected to leave the club and he looks set to make way for Bournemouth workhorse Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool reach personal terms agreement with Milos Kerkez as £45m transfer edges closer than ever
The 2024/25 Premier League season was obviously defined by Liverpool’s title triumph but it was also punctuated with regular flirting between the Kerkez and the Reds. His relationship with Dominik Szoboszlai is a crucial element and now, a deal to sign the Hungarian international Kerkez is advancing.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the player has agreed to personal terms should an agreement with Bournemouth be found as expected.
“My information, guys, is that Kerkez already has an agreement on personal terms with Liverpool. So just about some small details to be clarified,” Romano states.
“And then Liverpool are in contact with Bournemouth. Liverpool are still working on this one. So not only Wirtz, not only Frimpong, also in active conversations for Kerkez, and this week, the conversations will continue to get the deal done.”
Kerkez and Frimpong are the future of Liverpool’s fullback role – A new Robertson and Trent?
Even the most bitter Liverpool fan will be the first to admit that there will not be another fullback partnership at Anfield or in the Premier League at all that resembles what Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold brought to the division.
Between them, Robbo and Trent have a combined total of 38 goals and 164 assists.
Yet, Liverpool have done tremendously to find affordable and highly talented replacements for such iconic players.
Robertson will remain at the club and compete with Kerkez while Frimpong will hash it out at right back with Conor Bradley.
