West Ham are believed to be interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton in the January transfer window, according to a fresh claim.
The midfielder is a talented young player who has managed 14 appearances for the Reds to date, also spending spells out on loan to aid his development.
Morton has had to accept being second fiddle to Liverpool’s more experienced midfielders this season, however, with the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai all in superb form.
The 22-year-old has only played four times this season, starting just twice, and he recently admitted that he needs to start thinking about his future at Anfield.
“This month is a big month for myself,” Morton said.
“It’s decision time, and I feel ready to kick on and be a proper professional, if that’s here or someone else. I need to be a bit selfish and go with however I feel.”
Now, according to Rousing The Kop, West Ham are interested in signing him this month, with the Hammers “known admirers” and the Liverpool ace “considering” a move away.
Right time for Morton to leave?
In truth, it is hard to see Morton ever being a regular starter for Liverpool, even though he is a classy midfielder to watch, being hailed by Liam Brady in the past, who said of him:
“Seeing those kids playing, the right-back and the midfield player were absolutely brilliant. Tyler Morton was fantastic, he gave himself time on the ball and played some great diagonal passes. They have such riches in abundance Liverpool, it’s quite incredible.”
At 22, Morton is no longer an extremely young player in his teens, so he needs to be thinking about playing week in, week out and becoming a key man in a team.
A club like West Ham could be ideal in that respect, with the east Londoners an established Premier League side, but not possessing the world-class stars that Liverpool do in the middle of the park.
Should Morton leave this month permanently, it would arguably be a surprise, with a summer exit making more sense, but if he does move on, it would be hard to begrudge him a new challenge.
