Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has told Real Madrid to sign Liverpool legend Virgil van Dijk this summer, in what could be a double deal alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Van Dijk and his teammate are both out of contract at the end of the season, as is Mohamed Salah, and none have signed extensions at Anfield yet.

The situation is causing understandable concern among the Liverpool fanbase, with Alexander-Arnold arguably feeling the most likely to move on.

Writing for The Times, Cascarino also backed Madrid to complete the signing of Van Dijk, saying it is “a no-brainer” for the reigning European champions:

It is impossible to downplay just how influential Van Dijk is to Liverpool, with Gary Neville calling him “world-class” in the past, saying: “Liverpool have got three world-class players in Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Salah. Van Dijk has been back to his best in this past month or two.”

It is imperative that the towering Dutchman is given the contract that he both craves and deserves, staying put at Liverpool for another few years. If not, a club like Madrid would no doubt love to have him.
