Another report from Spain suggests that Luis Diaz is likely to make the move from Liverpool to Barcelona in the summer as Arne Slot looks to overhaul his attack with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota also linked with summer exits.
Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo have been in incredible form this season and for the large part, have been relied upon to provide the goals and incision in Liverpool’s attack. Combined, they have 68 goals and assists.
Luis Diaz, the forward who has played the most games with Salah and Gakpo, has a very respectable 13 goals and three assists but his form has not been the same in 2025 as it was in 2024. In fact, his bundled goal against Wolves was his first this year.
While he has not been providing as many goals or assists as his teammates, his overall play has still been very good.
Yet, it does not seem as though Liverpool will offer him a new contract and after a claim from Sport in Spain linked him with Barcelona, they have followed it up with another claim that the forward is ‘very, very well placed’ to move to Barca in the summer.
Luis Diaz is “very, very well placed” to complete summer transfer to Barcelona
According to Sport, via Sport Witness, Luis Diaz is the most achievable left-wing target for Barcelona, who are also interested in AC Milan star Rafael Leao but the Italian side will reportedly demand as much as €100million (£83m) to sell him.
Therefore, with Luis Diaz out of contract in two years, the Liverpool forward is higher on their list. Barca consider him to be an “excellent” target and with his contract not liklely to be extended, Liverpool will likely look to recoup some of the “initial £37m” they spent to sign him in January 2022.
Diaz is not seen as a player that cannot be sold and, according to Sport, he is now “very, very well placed” to make the move to Catalonia. A deal still needs to be negotiated with Liverpool, who are famously difficult to deal with.
It will be sad to see Diaz go but if he’s not part of Arne Slot’s long-term plans, the money generated from his sale could go towards bringing to life the manager’s vision for Liverpool.
