Real Madrid are poised to complete a Bosman transfer for Trent Alexander-Arnold but they will not succeed with their reported bid for Alexis Mac Allister.
The latest on Trent to Madrid comes from David Ornstein for The Athletic FC podcast, with the journalist stating: “It’s long since been the case that we’re expecting him to join Real Madrid, but of course, until absolutely everything is finalised, that door is just slightly ajar.”
While some hope lives on that the Scouse fullback will stay, it does not seem likely.
Yet, it’s being reported in Spain that not only is Trent heading to Madrid but they also want to sign Mac Allister.
Real Madrid ready to bid €90m (£76m) to sign Alexis Mac Allister as a replacement for Luka Modric
According to Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid are in the market for a replacement for Luka Modric and with a budget of around €90million (£76m), Mac Allister is their target.
Their report reads: “With Xabi Alonso taking over the team next season, the sporting directors have reactivated this approach with greater conviction. The Basque coach sees the world champion as a perfect complement to the young midfield core of Bellingham, Camavinga, Valverde, and Tchouaméni. The intention is clear: to create a dominant midfield, balancing physicality, vision, and attacking the box.
“While Liverpool won’t make it easy for the former Brighton player to leave, Chamartín club officials are confident that the club’s financial strength, combined with the attractiveness of its sporting project, could tip the balance. Mac Allister, given his profile and current form, seems destined to mark a new era in the Whites’ midfield.”
Barcelona paid £142m for Philippe Coutinho – how does Alexis Mac Allister compare?
In January 2018, Liverpool completed the sale of Brazilian midfielder Phillipe Coutinho to Barcelona for a Premier League record of £146million (€170m) when he was at the height of his powers.
That season, Coutinho was wondrous. He scored 12 goals and assisted nine by Christmas and was on his way to breaking all his personal records in Red before he forced a move to Camp Nou.
Now, at the time Liverpool held all the cards. Coutinho had recently signed a new deal, was playing out of his skin and Barca were after a Neymar replacement and had a lot of cash to spend.
Mac Allister is under contract until June 2028 so Liverpool have all the power in negotiations so if Real Madrid truly want to sign him, they will have to make a nine figure offer just to show FSG they’re serious.
If Arsenal paid £105m for Declan Rice and Chelsea paid £115m for Moises Caicedo, it’s scary to imagine how much Michael Edwards would ask for Macca.
He has won the World Cup and the Premier League as a key midfielder so it’s safe to say £76m would not be enough to sign Alexis Mac Allister.
