Arne Slot could potentially miss Liverpool’s EFL Cup final clash with Newcastle United next month, according to reliable journalist Lewis Steele.
The Dutchman was shown a red card by Michael Oliver after the Reds’ 2-2 draw at Everton on February 12th, following a heated final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park that ended 2-2.
It was a game that also saw Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure dismissed after the final whistle, following a scuffle on the pitch, as well as Slot’s assistant Sipke Hulshoff.
According to The Times‘ Paul Joyce [via This Is Anfield], Liverpool, Slot and Hulshoff have all accepted the charges against them, with a hearing set to take place in the next 10 days.
A possible big blow for Slot
It is worth stressing that it remains very much up in the air when Slot will have to sit away from the dugout, but it would be far from ideal if it was for the much-anticipated Newcastle match.
For Slot to not play as big a role in a final in his first season at Anfield would be a cruel blow, so the hope is that he is absent elsewhere instead.
The fact that he, Jones and Hulshoiff have accepted the charges suggests they know they were in the wrong at Goodison, but supporters won’t blame them for their emotions spilling over.
The manner of Liverpool’s draw was tough to take, and in truth, it is sometimes nice to see individuals showing genuine passion and proving how much they care.
Slot will no doubt regret his actions because it is now leading to a ban, but it hopefully won’t have a detrimental impact on the Reds’ season.
