Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future is a major talking point currently, and reliable journalist Henry Winter has made a big call about the winger’s future at Anfield.

The 33-year-old has been left out of the Reds’ squad for Tuesday’s trip to Inter Milan in the Champions League, in what feels like the right decision for all parties.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are sticking by Arne Slot for the time being, despite some hugely disappointing results and performances this season.

Writing on X, Winter claimed that Salah will now inevitably leave the Reds in the January transfer window, having burned his bridges with his stunning post-Leeds United interview:

“Hard to see how Mo Salah can stay at Liverpool. January break best for all concerned. One of Liverpool’s greatest ever players is frustrated at the realisation that he is not a starter under Arne Slot. His form doesn’t warrant a place. His work out of possession doesn’t warrant a place. And he’s 33.

“Liverpool rightly back their head coach. The alternative is anarchy. It makes sense if Salah gets a farewell against Brighton, salute to a club legend etc, and he does a moving parting message via club media, reflecting on what the club has done for him as well as he for them, Liverpool always in his heart etc.

“Plays Afcon, goes to Saudi in January, good salary, good preparation for the World Cup. Not taxing. Liverpool not in a strong position over a fee.”

Is it time for Liverpool to wave goodbye to Salah?

Winter’s comments are strong, and some are sure to agree with them, but it doesn’t feel like Salah’s Liverpool career is completely dead in the water yet.

The Egyptian legend hasn’t been disciplined by the club for his interview, suggesting they aren’t overly angry with him, and Arne Slot acted surprised about his comments regarding their relationship, meaning he may feel there is no major issue.

It does feel like it could go one of two ways, though, with Salah potentially needing to apologise, while Slot himself is far from safe in his job.

The Liverpool legend may have made up his mind about no longer wanting to play for the Reds, however, which would be such a sad way of the great careers to come to an end.

Hopefully, though, the many issues can be ironed out in the coming days, with Salah’s Africa Cup of Nations duties arguably coming at a good time.
