Alisson’s latest injury is a massive blow for Liverpool and reliable journalist David Lynch has explained why the issue may have been suffered.

The Brazilian limped out of the Reds’ 1-0 win away to Crystal Palace before the international break, with a hamstring problem leaving him sidelined for around six weeks.

It is another injury setback for Alisson, who feels more fitness-prone than most other goalkeepers, and Arne Slot will now have to make do without one of his most important players during a challenging run of fixtures.

Following Slot’s pre-Chelsea press conference on Friday, Lynch took to X to share the head coach’s thoughts that a quickfire turnaround between Bologna and Palace may have proved fatal for Alisson, giving him little time to recover in between:

“Arne Slot suggests Alisson’s injury may have something to do with Liverpool playing Champions League on Wednesday evening then Saturday 12.30pm.”
Our thoughts on Slot’s Alisson remarks…
There is definite credence to Slot’s comments, at a time when much is being made of footballers being overworked, with a number of players speaking out about the situation.
Individuals are simply being asked to play far too many matches, with the schedule busier than ever, and it is no surprise to see players picking up more injuries and the quality of some matches suffering.
Alisson has always been susceptible to muscle problems and it is only natural that the chances of him suffering a setback will be increased if he is playing too regularly.
It is a situation that the authorities desperately need to look at moving forward, but sadly, money talks and many supporters are perfectly happy seeing more football on their screens than less.
In terms of Alisson, Liverpool have to hope that they get their brilliant No.1 back in the fold as soon as possible, with his absence having the potential to derail their season in the Premier League and Champions League.
Caoimhin Kelleher has proven to be a fantastic understudy, in fairness, but he is still a far inferior goalkeeper in comparison to his teammate, and the defence loses some of its aura without the Brazil superstar around.
