Liverpool have “definitely” watched Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers ahead of a possible move to Anfield this summer, reliable journalist David Lynch has claimed.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic season for Villa, arguably proving to be their talisman as they push for Champions League qualification.
Rogers is pushing hard to start for England at the 2026 World Cup star, with some feeling he merits playing over the likes of Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden as the No.10.
Speaking to Anfield Index [via TEAMtalk], Lynch said that Liverpool remain an option for the £100m-rated attacking midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window:
“In terms of some of the names you’re seeing, I’m sure there are players they like. The Morgan Rogers one is always interesting to me because he definitely is someone who they’ve watched and have liked down the years.
“But you’ve also got to say they’ve got Florian Wirtz in the number 10, [Dominik] Szoboszlai can play there. Rogers can play off the left, but he’s not a natural winger, and I would rather see them go for an out-and-out winger profile really.”
Can Liverpool make room for both Morgan Rogers and Florian Wirtz?
Rogers is such an impressive footballer, so the idea of him in a Liverpool shirt is exciting, given the technical quality and physical prowess in his game, and the praise that Glenn Hoddle has heaped on him.
“He was wonderful. I thought he was excellent. He’s just got that little bit of guile about him, that little bit of turn of pace. My word, for his age, he’s got that body strength that possibly like a [Wayne] Rooney when he was really young.”
That said, Rogers’ best position is the No.10 role, which is already occupied by Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai, acting as the main thing working against Liverpool moving for him.
He can shine on the left-hand side of the attack, too, but it would be a huge amount of money to spend on a player who isn’t necessarily going to start every week.
For that reason, Liverpool would be wise to look at other positions to improve in, even though few would be unhappy if Rogers did end up at Anfield, as it would add undoubted quality and depth to Arne Slot’s squad.
