Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a bold move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes as they look to strengthen their attack ahead of next season.

Even with the team on the verge of clinching the Premier League title and boasting the highest goal tally in the division, the club is already working behind the scenes to build for the future.

Rodrygo viewed as potential marquee signing for Arne Slot

According to reports from Spanish outlet Defensa Central, the 24-year-old Brazilian has caught Liverpool’s attention amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of Mohamed Salah and Luis Díaz.

The report states: “Liverpool continue to have their sights set on him in anticipation of the possible departures of Mo Salah or Luis Díaz, although they don’t seem willing to pay more than €80 million for him, a figure that Real Madrid doesn’t even consider decent for a player of this level.”

While there’s no confirmation that either will leave this summer, Liverpool are preparing for all outcomes and see Rodrygo as a ready-made option to step in.

Rodrygo still has three years remaining on his contract at the Bernabéu, and Real Madrid are believed to be holding firm in their valuation.

While Liverpool are reportedly unwilling to go above €80m (£68m), Madrid are said to believe the winger is worth more, making negotiations a potential challenge.

The Reds aren’t alone in their interest. Manchester City are also tracking Rodrygo, setting the stage for a possible bidding war between the two English heavyweights if Madrid open the door to a sale.

Arsenal have also been loosely linked in the past, though it’s Liverpool and City leading the race.

A perfect fit for Slot’s system

Since joining Madrid from Santos in 2019, Rodrygo has proven himself as a big-game player -shining in La Liga and the Champions League alike. His skillset fits seamlessly with Arne Slot’s attacking style: quick transitions, freedom to create, and exploiting one-on-one situations.

If Salah is the benchmark for Europe right now with 32 goals and 22 assists, then Rodrgyo’s 13 goals and assists this season should be seen as huge promise of the potential he has.

At Anfield, he could thrive in a system that encourages wide players to be direct, inventive, and clinical.

Whether Liverpool increase their bid or look for a more cost-effective alternative remains to be seen.

What’s certain is this: Rodrygo is firmly on the club’s radar, and Liverpool are not standing still as they look to maintain their place at the top of English football.
