Liverpool have reportedly taken concrete steps in their hopes of adding Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman to Anfield in the summer as the Reds get set for a busy window.

The Reds are flying under Arne Slot and took a big step towards the Premier League title when they moved 11 points clear of Arsenal. They have played a game more but although the Gunners have a game in hand, Liverpool know too well the pressure that comes with being a game behind in a title race.

Despite success on the pitch, Liverpool are already putting plans into place to reinforce their squad in the summer. The priority is likely to initially be on finding a new centre-back to bolster Arne Slot’s depth as injuries to the Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate have been an ever-present threat this season.

With Gomez out until the end of the season after undergoing successful surgery on a hamstring issue, Slot has just three centre-backs to cope with the remaining 11 Premier League games, a Carabao Cup final and the entirety of the Champions League knockout phase.

According to a report from Sky Sports Switzerland, Lookman is certain to leave Atalanta in the summer with Premier League interest reportedly very high. The star of the 2024 Europa League final, Lookman could return to England after spending time at Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham and Leicester City.

Lookman’s camp wants to take advantage of the form Lookmam is in and Liverpool are in the mix.

The report reads: “Contacts have already been made with Liverpool to examine the possibility of a permanent transfer this summer.”

Arsenal have “made inquiries but have not yet taken the concrete steps that the Reds have already started.”

Lookman is billed as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah should he leave. The winger is in the form of his life but is also at the end of his Liverpool contract and unless FSG complete his contract extension, he will be able to leave for free in the summer.

The Nigerian attacker is in fantastic form this season, scoring 17 goals and seven assists. He is just two assists away from his total for last season and Liverpool have clearly taken notice of his continued upward trajectory.
