Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has been handed a significant boost after Arsenal reportedly conceded defeat in the race to sign the Newcastle United striker — believing the Swedish star would prefer a move to Anfield over the Emirates.

With Darwin Núñez expected to leave Anfield this summer, Liverpool have made signing a top-class striker a key priority, and Isak has now emerged as their number one target heading into the transfer window.

Arsenal, long linked with Isak themselves, are now turning their attention elsewhere, with reports suggesting they’ve been forced to remove the Newcastle striker from their list of viable targets.

As per TBR Football, there is now a “new belief” at the Emirates that Isak would favour Liverpool if he were to leave St James’ Park.

That shift in momentum marks a major advantage for the Reds, especially with Mikel Arteta’s side actively in the market for a new centre-forward.

Despite exploring alternatives like Viktor Gyökeres and Victor Osimhen, it appears Arsenal have accepted that Isak’s preference lies with Liverpool.

If Liverpool lose Salah, Isak would be the perfect new attacker

Isak’s profile fits perfectly with what Liverpool are building. At just 25, he’s already a proven Premier League striker and offers a blend of pace, intelligence, and clinical finishing – qualities that would make him a natural successor to Núñez in Arne Slot’s evolving system.

Since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63 million in 2022, Isak has racked up 59 goals and 9 assists in 101 appearances.

He also made headlines in January 2025 after breaking Alan Shearer’s long-standing record by scoring in eight consecutive Premier League games – a feat the legendary striker had previously held since 1996.

Isak has already enjoyed success against Liverpool, notably scoring in the Carabao Cup final as Newcastle edged past the Reds to lift the trophy.

But he may soon be swapping black and white for red – and if reports are accurate, Anfield could be his next home.

For Liverpool, landing Isak would be a statement signing.

With Arsenal stepping aside and FSG ready to invest in the next chapter of the club’s forward line, the path now appears clear to bring one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents to Merseyside.
