As Arne Slot battles to keep his job as Liverpool’s head coach, a fresh report has dropped regarding a meeting that is due to take place.
Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton was another woeful performance by the Reds, as their forgettable Premier League season continues.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was among many who were unimpressed with what they saw, saying: “The performance wasn’t good enough, but you can almost feel that this performance and this result was coming, even before the ball was kicked.”
“Liverpool get a couple of injuries to key players like Salah, Allison, on the back of midweek, the manager speaking about maybe the lack of energy they might have, and then you look at Brighton‘s plans to come and try and play a game with that intensity and that speed, that energy. Brighton deserved the win overall, and a big opportunity missed for Liverpool.”
Now, a source on X has made a big claim about Slot’s future at Anfield, saying those high up at the club will meet on Tuesday, with Xabi Alonso potentially coming in before the end of the season:
“Exclusive. We understand that Liverpool’s owners and football operations team will meet on Tuesday to discuss the crisis at the club. Liverpool will ask Xabi Alonso once again whether he is willing to cut short his break from football to manage the club and replace Arne Slot.
“There are mixed views on bringing Steven Gerrard in as temporary manager until the summer, and it will require convincing certain officials at the club.”
Are Liverpool missing a trick by not sacking Arne Slot?
At this point, Slot has lost a huge chunk of the Liverpool fanbase, with too many poor results and displays proving too hard to ignore.
The Reds may still be in three competitions, but sadly, there is an inevitability about them going no further in the FA Cup and the Champions League after playing Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively.
For that reason, Liverpool would be better to dispose of Slot now and bring in either Alonso, if he wants the job straight away, or Gerrard until the end of the season.
Slot will always be appreciated for last season’s Premier League title win, but there are too many negative aspects on show to justify keeping him in the job for much longer.
