On Sunday, Arsenal will give Liverpool a guard of honour at the Emirates just days after losing 2-1 to PSG in the Champions League semi-final.

Not only have Arsenal conceded the title race and crashed out of Europe in lacklustre style, but they are now also at risk of falling out of the Premier League top four.

If that happens, this season’s so-called title challengers may not even be in the Champions Leagu next season.

The Gunners were baited into hoping for an historic season but it just might go down in history for all the wrong reasons.

As such, Liverpool should not expect a comfortable game as while the Reds are mentally on the beach already, Arsenal still need to fight for points in their remaining games to avoid being leapfrogged.

As it stands, defeat on Sunday would give Man City the chance to move level on points if they can beat Southampton. Arsenal would still be second on goal difference but the race for top four is so tight that the North Londonders are in real danger of missing out on top four.

Roy Keane tells Liverpool and Arsenal fans to expect goals in what should be a tense affair

While speaking on Sky Bet’s The Overlap, Jill Scott said she reckons that despite the emotion at play, the game between Arsenal and Liverpool will end in a disappointing goalless draw.

Roy Keane wasn’t having it, saying: “No, no, there’s goals there.

“We’ll give Liverpool two goals. We all think Liverpool will score two goals. We’ll go 2-1 Liverpool.”

Both Gary Neville and Paul Scholes agreed it would be a goalless draw but one thing is for sure, Arne Slot and his players cannot expect anything more than a harsh welcome from the home fans at the Emirates.

From their perspective, this season must have been really tough. Of course, in many ways, it has been a self-made issue. Arsenal, aside from their run in Europe, were never in a commanding position to go out and bring a trophy home.

In the Premier League, they have been behind Liverpool for virtually the whole campaign and at this stage, the 15 point gap is a good representation of how far apart the two sides are in their development.
