With new Liverpool manager Arne Slot having had a magnificent debut season in charge at Anfield and leading his starting XI through to, what was really, a pretty comfortable Premier League title in the 2024/25 campaign, fans can now enjoy some down time over the summer months given the rollercoaster season we have just had.
Our 46 year old Dutchman could not have really asked for more across the year with the Liverpool results that we picked up and although we had a few hiccups along the way, Slot will undoubtedly be relishing the chance to see us defend our crown in the 2025/26 campaign and with us knowing that Trent Alexander-Arnold has now made his last appearance for us, moves are already afoot to improve the group over the summer as our gaffer looks for more success and to live up to the Liverpool predictions that will now follow.
The coming months will take care of themselves though, and for now fans can just enjoy another memorable title winning season having studiously watched Liverpool live scores, and with a new contract finally secured, Egyptian wizard Mohamed Salah will be front and centre of those celebrations. With Liverpool fixtures brought to an end with the curtain closer against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace was hardly a classic, and being reduced to ten men as we were 1-0 down was hardly ideal, Salah popped up with the all important leveller six minutes from time to get the celebrations started – and after our last Covid hit title win, the fans and the players were going to make the most of this one on home soil.
Despite the ongoing contract issues that had rumbled on in the background this year, it was another standout season for the 32 year old and his 84th minute leveller in the game put him back into the history books. In scoring his 29th league goal of the campaign, when added to his 18 assists it moved Salah level with both Alan Shearer and Andy Cole in holding the record for the most goal involvements in a single Premier League season.
It also meant that Salah secured the 2024/25 Golden Boot for the fourth time, which also equals the record held by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, and as we know, in lifting our 20th title we moved joint level with Manchester United. Having lifted 19 in front of empty stadiums, the sheer significance of 20, Salah’s personal success, and being able to celebrate it with the fans for the first time since the 1990’s, just made it all the more special.
With Palace celebrating their own success, it just turned Anfield into even more of a party atmosphere, although it was a little bit bizarre to see both teams ahead of kick off give each other a guard of honour, but it undoubtedly gave rise to smiles from those in attendance which did include the likes of former club skipper Alan Hansen and there was even a certain Jurgen Klopp cheering on.
With spirits high, even a tearful TAA got a rapturous send off as he made his final appearance for us as a second half substitute, and he more than played his part in our improved second half performance.
Those celebrations will continue into the new week with fans lining the streets for our parade and then we look to next season and ponder whether this could be the start of some sustained success once again.
