Mohamed Salah’s legendary career at Liverpool could be drawing to a close, with fresh reports suggesting the Egyptian superstar remains interested in a move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
With his contract set to expire at the end of June, Salah’s future remains a major talking point among Reds supporters.
The Telegraph’s Jason Burt has reported that while Salah isn’t expected to move before the Club World Cup in June, he is still open to the prospect of joining the Saudi Pro League once his time at Anfield comes to an end.
Saudi Clubs confident of landing Salah
Saudi Arabian clubs, particularly Al-Ittihad, have been pushing for Salah’s signature for some time.
Their £150 million bid on deadline day in August 2023 was rejected by Liverpool, but the interest has not faded.
According to the latest reports, the Saudi Pro League is acting as a collective, with its leadership still confident that Salah is considering a switch to the Middle East.
Though a pre-Club World Cup move to Al-Hilal has been ruled out, key figures within Saudi football remain in active discussions over a potential summer transfer.
Liverpool fans desperate to keep their star
Salah has once again been Liverpool’s standout performer this season, contributing 27 goals and 17 assists in the Premier League alone. All in all, Salah has 32 goals and 22 assists this season for a whopping total of 54 goal contributions in all competitions.
His form has been instrumental in the Reds’ title charge, just as it was in 2020 when he helped secure their first league triumph in 30 years.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk also out of contract this summer, Arne Slot will be desperate to avoid a mass exodus of key players.
Alexander-Arnold appears bound for Real Madrid, making Salah’s retention even more critical as Liverpool plan for next season.
As it stands, Liverpool fans face an anxious wait over Salah’s decision. With negotiations ongoing behind the scenes and Saudi Arabia still in pursuit, his Anfield future remains firmly up in the air.
One can only hope it doesn’t somehow overshadow the Reds heading towards a 20th league title and their second in five years.
