England legend Paul Gascoigne has produced some bizarre criticism of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, claiming he’s “off the boil” this season.

The Egyptian King’s Reds future is still up in the air, ahead of his contract expiring in the summer of 2025, and it remains to be seen if he will agree an extension.

Salah has continued to be a vital player for Liverpool this season, however, doing his bit to help them sit top of the Premier League, but that doesn’t appear to be good enough for ‘Gazza’.

Speaking to SportsCasting, the former England midfielder claimed that the 32-year-old is not right because of his contract situation, also admittedly saying he’s a better player than Eden Hazard was:

scored and assisted four times apiece in seven Premier League appearances, as well as bagging one each in his two Champions League appearances in 2024/25 to date.

Salah has certainly made an impression on Arne Slot, too, with the Reds’ new head coach saying of him after the 2-0 win at home to Bologna:

“What can I say about Mo? What you saw today is what you get. If you bring him often enough in positions like this, he can score a goal. He had a great assist as well. If you look at the way he scores it, I can understand everyone is talking about the finish because it was a fantastic finish. He almost had the same one just before.”

Salah’s attitude has been immaculate, at a time when his focus could easily be affected by off-field issues, and the vast majority of Liverpool supporters will be desperate for him to sign an extension at Anfield as soon as possible.

If this is him off the boil in the eyes of ‘Gazza’, you dread to think how he would assess him when he has an iffy run of form, which is extremely rare in itself.
