Sky Sports have provided a significant new update regarding Adam Wharton’s future at Crystal Palace, amid strong links with a summer move to Liverpool.
The 22-year-old is an enormous talent, producing a Man of the Match performance in Palace’s 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano in the UEFA Europa Conference final on Wednesday night.
Speaking after the game [via ESPN], Wharton addressed being left out of England’s 2026 World Cup squad, producing a typically classy and mature response:
“That’s just part of football. It was never a guarantee I was going to go. I knew that. When he called me, he just told me I wasn’t there. He said it was close. But yeah, like I said, that’s football. I’m not going to sit here and cry about it.Still had two games for Palace to go. Obviously tonight being a massive one, I don’t really dwell on those things too much. It’s not the end of the world. I’m still young.”
Wharton has emerged as a leading midfield option for Liverpool this summer, but according to an on-air claim from Sky Sports on Thursday morning, Palace now “want to try to convince” the midfielder to stay at the club for one more year:

Liverpool have to push hard for Adam Wharton signing
Wharton showed in the final what a special talent he is, running the midfield with his vision and poise, and being hailed by scout Jacek Kulig after the match:
“A superb performance in the UEFA Conference League final by Adam Wharton. Delighted for him. Absolutely loved the player since the first time I saw him in the Championship. One of the midfielders I’ll miss the most at the World Cup.”
At 22, it is easy to see Wharton potentially feeling that another season at Palace wouldn’t be a bad thing, but Liverpool have to go all in on him this summer.
He has the quality to be a mainstay of the Reds’ midfield for many years, and while his injuries are a worry, they will hopefully ease with age.
Some signings just feel tailor-made for Liverpool, and Wharton is one of those, with the Eagles ace possessing the ability and passion to be a hit with the supporters, in an area of the pitch that desperately needs improving ahead of next season.
