Liverpool are working on a deal to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande after an outstanding 2025-26 season that caught the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The Telegraph‘s Dominic King and The Times‘ Paul Joyce have both reported on Liverpool’s keen interest in signing Diomande this summer, with sporting director Richard Hughes devising a plan to reduce the reported €100m (£86m) asking price.

King reports: “Liverpool are prioritising the signing of a new right winger to replace Mohamed Salah, with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande a top target.”

Joyce provided a more in-depth report on the strategy behind Liverpool’s plans to sign Diomande. He writes: “Liverpool have RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande high on their list for potential acquisitions after the 19-year-old turned heads during his first season in the Bundesliga.

“Leipzig triggered a €20million release clause to secure Diomande from the Spanish side Leganes 12 months ago and, on the back of 13 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions this season, his value has since soared to a reputed €100million (about £86million).

“It stands to reason that Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, would try to chip away at that fee and the use of Harvey Elliott as part of a swap deal has been mooted.”

Joyce went on to add that Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola are also under consideration for Liverpool this summer.

Why Yan Diomande is the perfect Mo Salah replacement despite massive transfer fee

As Joyce points out, Liverpool are very keen on Diomande and believe him to be the natural replacement for Salah despite being just 19.

The Reds are in need of an injection of pace, 1v1 ability and creativity in the wake of Salah’s exit from the club this summer. Nobody expected Salah to leave until 2027, so finding a replacement has been fast-tracked.

Yet, Diomande is the perfect player to take the reins from Salah. Despite his youth, the Ivorian wowed in the Bundesliga with 13 goals and 10 assists, with the impression being that he’s just getting started.

With Alexander Isak set to finally be fully fit for the start of the 2026-27 season, he will need wingers that can provide the type of big chances a No.9 like the Swede needs to thrive. Diomande, and potentially Barcola as well, can certainly provide this service to Isak.
