Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal will battle it out for the chance to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth but it will not be a protracted transfer saga.

The defender has wowed fans this season with mature performances for the Cherrries, attracting attention from the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Liverpool are in the market for a new centre-back this summer and Huijsen fits the profile perfectly. Fortunuately, Arne Slot doesn’t need to worry about replacing Virgil van Dijk as well after the captain signed a two-year contract extension until 2027.

In April, there were a fair few rumours surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s future but that has gone quiet while there is a chance that Liverpool sell Jarrel Quansah as the 22-year-old hasn’t really done much with the opportunities he’s received this season.

Liverpool will not need to wait too long to learn Dean Huijsen’s transfer plans

Reporting via his YouTube channel on Sunday evening, Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the status of Huijsen’s transfer thinking.

“This month, May, will be really important for the future of Dean Huijsen,” says Romano.

Some sources are telling me there’s a strong possibility of Huijsen deciding his next club this month. So, not to be a saga for July, August, deadline day.

“Three clubs remain in this race in a strong way. They are Chelsea, excellent relationship with the player’s side, Arsenal, considering Huijsen as a top, top defender, so also in contact with the player and then Liverpool.

“All these three clubs are absolutely in the race. That’s the situation, these three clubs are pushing. They’re going to present their projects to the player and then the player will decide.”

Real Madrid not set to enter the race for Huijsen

It’s just as well Real Madrid don’t look set to compete for the Spaniard’s signature as Romano reports the La Liga outfit would comfortably win the race to sign him.

“There’s still no indication of Real Madrid’s intention to pay the release clause any time soon,” Romano reports.

“My information is that Dean Huijsen would be really open and tempted by Real Madrid move. He’s Spanish, he can feel the magic of Real Madrid. But, at the moment, those close to Dean Huijsen have not received any message from Madrid on the intention of the club to pay the release clause and sign the player.”
