West Ham attacker Jarrod Bowen is “open” to the idea of securing a move to Liverpool at the end of the season, according to former scout Mick Brown.
The Reds are expected to bring in more attacking players in the summer transfer window, amid doubts over numerous players.
Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future hasn’t yet been resolved, with a new contract not agreed, while Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have all been linked with moves away.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said that he believes Bowen is “open” to leaving West Ham for Liverpool when the current season comes to an end:
“The chance to play for Liverpool would appeal to any player. It’s an opportunity to win trophies and play at the highest level. He’s happy at West Ham, he’s very highly thought-of there and he’s getting in the England squad, so I don’t expect him to force a move through or anything like that.
“But if he didn’t want to make a move which would boost his career, I’d be very surprised. A footballer’s career is very short, so you’ve got to make the most of these opportunities. So I think he will be open to a move to Liverpool if it comes, but first there will have to be an offer which the club deem acceptable. What that price will be, I’m not sure, but he won’t come cheap that’s for certain.”
Is Bowen good enough for Liverpool?
Bowen has been a top-level Premier League player for some time now, scoring 51 goals and registering 40 assists in 193 appearances in the competition.
The 28-year-old has caused Liverpool problems plenty of times, netting three times against them, while Joe Cole has described him as both “talented” and humble”.
While Bowen is an excellent player – one who isn’t dissimilar Salah in style, cutting inside onto his left foot from the right wing – he does turn 29 later this year and would likely cost the Reds a huge amount of money.
Instead, Liverpool should be looking at a younger attacking option who could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Salah, unless they are able to snap up the West Ham captain on the cheap. That seems highly unlikely, considering his current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2030.
