When the Arsenal goalkeeper moved to Leeds in 1990 many Arsenal fans were dismayed to lose a player of proven worth who had helped them win their first title in eighteen years just a year before. Lukic spent six years at Leeds before returning to Arsenal in 1996. However by then he found that David Seaman had usurped him and he was unable to win back his place in the side. Between 1983 and 1990 Lukic made over 200 appearances for the Gunners. In his second spell he made less than twenty appearances in five years.
