Patrick Vieira

A virtual unknown when he signed for £3.5 million from Milan in 1996 Vieira became a legend at Arsenal winning 7 trophies and making over 400 appearances in his nine years at Highbury. His dominating displays and boundless energy in the centre of midfield soon led to him becoming captain and in 2003/04 he led the Gunners to an unbeaten season wearing the armband. When he left in 2005 it started a shocking decline in North London and it’s fair to say the Frenchman has never been replaced by Arsene Wenger. Perhaps he never will be.
