Liverpool FC have extended Mohamed Salah’s contract until 2027, adding two years onto a deal that would have expired in just over two months.
The moment we have all waited so long for is here. Salah is going to have another two years to dazzle in the Premier League, bringing an end to a horribly long saga.
The Egyptian has more than proved this season that he deserves a new deal, scoring 32 goals while also contributing 22 assists with a potential Ballon d’Or on its way if he can maintain this form throughout 2025.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Salah said: “Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.
“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.
“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
Mohamed Salah has the chance to break two massive records this season
With 27 goals and 17 assists, Salah now has two huge Premier League records in sight which would see him overtake Erling Haaland and none other than Thierry Henry in the process.
Haaland holds the current 38-game season record for most goals in a single campaign (36) after he broke the record previously set by none other than Salah himself in his first season with Liverpool.
With just four assists, Salah can also claim the outright record for most assists in a 38-game season held by Henry. These two records would greatly improve his claim to be the greatest Premier League player of all time.
Of course, it will require Salah to score nine goals and assist four in Liverpool’s remaining seven games. It will be tough but with the confidence of knowing his Anfield career is secure, who would bet against him?
One record would make it difficult to argue Mohamed Salah isn’t the most impressive player in Premier League history
With 184 goals in the Premier League, Salah has a massive record in sight that would not be possible without his two-year contract extension.
With 85 Premier League matches left in his Anfield career, the 32-year-old can now test himself against Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals.
Salah has 184 goals which means he would need 76 more to overtake Shearer but he would need to average a strike rate of 0.89 goals until his current Liverpool contract expires in 2027.
His goal-per-game rate this season is 0.87 which means he’d need to maintain or slightly better his current form to do become the highest-scoring player in Premier League history.
It’s a mammoth ask but Salah is defying logic by getting better with age and given his athleticism and dedication to leading a healthy life, there are no indications to suggest a huge drop-off is coming.
