Liverpool have reportedly not given up hope that a deal can be reached for the transfer of Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak.
Arne Slot is making a strong case for why Liverpool should be favourites to win the Premier League again next season after lifting the title in his first season at the club.
The Dutchman has sporting director Richard Hughes hard at work to upgrade his squad and having already announced the capture of the rapid Jeremie Frimpong, they are hard at work on deals to sign Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.
Bayer Leverkusen want £126m for Wirtz while Bournemouth are similarly holding out for a figure in the region of £45m and having already spent £29m to sign Frimpong, Liverpool’s summer outlay could reach £200m before June even ends.
Yet, Liverpool reportedly believe there is still a chance to land “dream” signing Alexander Isak despite his reported £150m valuation
There is still a chance that Alexander Isak leaves Newcastle United this summer
According to Rousing the Kop journalist Graeme Bailey, Liverpool are considering “various options” to fill the void that Darwin Nunez will leave when he inevitably secures a summer exit amid renewed interest from Saudi Arabia.
One of them, unsurprisingly, is Isak. The Swede is considered “a deam signing” for Liverpool and while Newcastle hold all of the cards, RTK reports that “Isak staying on Tyneside is a formality are wide of the mark.”
While it is widely believed that Newcastle securing Champions League qualification on the final day of the season also guaranteed Isak will be at the club next term, contract talks with the Toon will reportedly “play a greater role in whether he stays or decides to look for a new challenge in the transfer window.”
Isakis “understood to be happy at Newcastle” but wants “an improvement on his current deal” if he is to remain at St. James’ Park. His agents are “working on an agreement” with Newcastle but Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the situation and “are ready to make their move if encouragement is given that an exit is possible.”
