Easily the biggest mystery in football after the then Southampton manager Graeme Souness received a phone call from someone purporting to be Weah who explained that his cousin, who had played for Paris St Germain and had played for his country 13 times, was available. The incredibly gullible Souness was convinced by the ‘fake’ phone call and signed the ‘Senegalese international’ on a one-month contract. He came on in league game against Leeds United but was subbed off after 43 minutes on the pitch after putting in a performance that was spectacularly below Premier League standard, although he did have a shot on target! He was subsequently released by the Saints and after a spell at non-league side Gateshead, faded into footballing obscurity.
