Joey Barton

Off the field tantrums and incidents have overshadowed Barton’s career and he is often the victim of abuse from opposition supporters. The former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder left both clubs on bad terms due to his relationships boiling over with team mates and board members alike. In 2008 Barton was sentenced to six months imprisonment for common assault and affray after an incident in Liverpool. In July the same year, he was given a four month suspended sentence for actual bodily harm after an incident with City team-mate Ousmane Dabo which he was also charged with by the FA.
