After making an immediate impact on the Premier League when Wigan were promoted in 2005, Chimbonda was a key player in the Latics survival, playing in all but two of their league games that year. However, the Frenchman’s attitude became a real problem after that and has failed to stay at a club for a consistent period of time, whether it be demanding ridiculous wages or sulking when not playing. Spells at Tottenham, Sunderland, QPR and Blackburn were eventful but unsuccessful for Chimbonda who is currently on a short term deal at Championship side Doncaster Rovers.
