It would be more than fair to say Liverpool have never really recovered from the loss of their influential midfielder to Real Madrid – where he has now become a key player for Mourinho’s side. Never really replaced, the Merseysiders have struggled to compensate for the loss of Alonso’s vision and passing from deep in the centre of the park, and would have him back in a heartbeat.
