Roy Keane


Do you know what real hard men do? They moan about how tough the turf is, that’s what. Keane left Ireland’s World Cup training camp in 2002 in Saipan amid reservations over the facilities and general concerns over the FAI’s preparation for the tournament. A very public falling-out with manager Mick McCarthy took place, with the peak of Keane’s fury being aired like dirty linen in a team meeting. Keane later returned, although not as captain, after McCarthy’s departure under his successor Brian Kerr.
