Blackburn came incredibly close to signing Roy Keane from Nottingham Forest and he had actually agreed to join the club after shaking hands on a deal with Kenny Dalglish. However, he then received a phone call from Alex Ferguson, who asked Keane to wait until they had met before signing. It was the first time Keane had heard from Ferguson but the prospect of playing for Manchester United wooed the Irishman so much that he called off the deal, leaving Dalglish more than slightly annoyed. After a long rant, Dalglish concluded that Keane was a “wee bastard” and we all know what happened to Keane at Man United.
