Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of missing out on signing Bournemouth free agent Marcos Senesi amid claims of a verbal agreement with Tottenham.
At the start of May, Liverpool were understood to be in the race to sign 29-year-old Marcos Senesi.
Fabrizio Romano led the reporting on Liverpool links via YouTube. The Italian said: “I had already mentioned quite clearly here that Senesi would stay in the Premier League. There has been and still is some interest from Italy, but he will remain in England. I’m told – and it’s confirmed 100% – that the Argentine defender intends to stay in the Premier League.
“Liverpool have also entered the race quite strongly in recent days. So keep an eye on Liverpool, because they’re expected to make new contacts for Marcos Senesi. As for Italy, it’s not really a concrete option right now.”
Now, however, Senesi looks set to join Tottenham after they narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship.
Marcos Senesi reaches verbal agreement to join Tottenham instead of Liverpool
While we do not yet have clarity on what happened to Liverpool’s interest in the interim, it does now appear as though Senesi will join Spurs this summer.
Senesi is out of contract on 30 June, and under Bosman transfer rules, he has been eligible to talk to interested clubs since January 1.
Now, Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto reports: “Tottenham has verbally agreed on the signing of Marcos Senesi.
“There is a verbal agreement in progress between the parties, and the London club is already working on a four-year contract for the Argentine defender.
“The Spurs are getting ahead of several European giants; even Liverpool showed interest in recent weeks.”

With Liverpool seemingly out of the chase for Senesi, it means they will have to look elsewhere. The Argentine represented the smart financial choice for the Reds given the lack of a transfer fee.
Jeremy Jacquet is set to arrive soon from Rennes after a £60m agreement was reached with the French club in January, but after Liverpool failed to replace Jarell Quansah last summer, they need two centre-backs if Ibrahima Konate leaves this summer.
