Former Manchester United and Blackburn head scout Mike Brown claims that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract extension will depend on how this season ends.
With Trent injured, the focus has moved completely to his expiring contract with supporters fearful he will leave at the end of the season.
The fullback has spent his entire football life with the Reds and so a departure has always felt impossible. With Liverpool at the height of their powers and Trent a key figure, many find it difficult to understand why the 25-year-old would want to leave.
As Liverpool edge to the finish line and potentially a Premier League title, the chances of him leaving appear to increase but a former scout believes that it will all come down to how successful the Merseysiders are this season.
Liverpool success will determine Trent Alexander-Arnold contract extension
Former head scout of Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers, Mike Brown, says that Trent Alexander-Arnold will not decide his Liverpool future until the end of the season it will depend on how successful Arne Slot’s side is.
“He won’t decide the end of the season. It will all depend on how Liverpool do competitively between now and May.
“If they can win the Premier League and challenge for the Champions League, they could convince him. But I think he will make them wait,” he said as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Liverpool heading for silverware but will Trent stay?
As things stand, Liverpool are huge favourites to win the Carabao Cup after beating Spurs 4-0 to reach the final at Wembley where they will face Newcastle United.
They lead the way in the Premier League and barring a “calamitous error” they should life the title in May with the chance to go nine points clear of Arsenal with a win over Everton on Wednesday evening.
Plymouth Argyle ejected Liverpool from the FA Cup on Sunday but with the Reds into the knockout stages of the Champions League, Slot will not mind too much so long as he and his players make good on their other competitive goals.
Trent has already won every club tournament possible with Liverpool so if silverware alone is important to him, leaving Anfield for the Santiago Bernabeu would give him more competitions to conquer.
But then what?
He will inevitably reach the same place he is now and only a club with the soul and passion Liverpool have will fill that void.
Hopefully, he comes to the same conclusion Steven Gerrard did when he rejected Inter, Madrid and Chelsea (twice) to stay at Anfield.
