Mohamed Salah has put pen to paper on a two-year Liverpool contract extension with the Egyptian now set to complete a full decade on Merseyside.
Ever since Salah swapped Rome for Liverpool, he has been flanked by some wonderful attackers. None have come close to Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Together, they won everything but the FA Cup.
Since their departures, Liverpool have not managed to find truly world-class partners for Salah even though the likes of Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have been more than admirable attacking cohorts of late.
Salah, a certified football legend, has now agreed to remain with Liverpool instead of accepting what we can only imagine would have been unfathomable offers from Saudi Arabia as well as offers from Europe’s elite to stay at Anfield.
So, it’s only right that Liverpool are on the lookout for a world-class companion to match his efforts next season.
Latest Liverpool transfer revelation: Plans in place to recruit “star signing” to partner Salah next season
According to a report from Spain, via Football 365, claims that Arne Slot has made a “clear request” to FSG to recruit a “star signing” to reinforce his elite offering in attack.
This season, Salah has no less than 27 goals and 17 assists in the Premier League alone. Overall, he has 54 goal contributions in all competitions.
The report states: “The club is already working on a competitive project to stay at the top. Slot has made his request to Liverpool’s board clear: he wants a top-level centre forward to support Salah in attack. And he has one name in mind: Alexander Isak.”
Alexander Isak – The obvious choice but Newcastle will be incredibly difficult to negotiate with
The report goes on to say: ‘The revenue from the Champions League, plus the commercial and television rights, allows the Anfield side to pursue a Galactico signing to strengthen their attack.
“Slot believes Isak is the perfect complement to Salah, providing goalscoring, mobility, and physical presence in the box. Furthermore, the Swede’s age fits perfectly with the idea of building a team capable of dominating in the medium and long term.
“For its part, Newcastle is in no rush to sell, but could be forced to listen to offers if it fails to qualify for European competitions. Isak would welcome a move to a more competitive club like Liverpool, which will be fighting for every title with Slot at the helm.”
[?] NEW: “I think they will still go for Alexander Isak. They will try and prize him away from Newcastle this summer.
“If they can’t get him, I know they are big fans of Hugo Ekitike.”

Beyond Isak – Who could Liverpool sign to mirror Salah’s prolific form
If Liverpool are to sign a top attacker to replace Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz or Diogo Jota, with all three linked with exits this summer, whoever they sign must be as incisive and decisive as Salah is.
Additionally, they will need to be elite in the build-up. For me, Julian Alvarez would be a wonderful option. But he just moved to Atletico Madrid and his ties to Man City mean he may not be willing to play for a rival Premier League side much less City’s most competitive opponent ever.
Hugo Ekitike has been linked with the Reds quite extensively, with the latest claims suggesting Liverpool are considering a move for him that would cost quite a bit at £68million. That being said, he has 20 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga this season and would cost drastically less than Isak.
Anfield Watch reported recently that Liverpool, along with Manchester United, and Arsenal, have already been in contact with his representatives to discuss a move to the Premier League.
His underlying stats are also very good with FBref data revealing he is in the highest percentiles for successful take-ons, touches in the box, shot-creating actions and passes received from a line-breaking pass.
Everything about his game suggests he would be the perfect option if Liverpool are unable to figure out a deal to sign Isak – which is admittedly very likely.
Verdict – Get very, very excited about season two of Arne Slot’s Anfield Adventure
The long and short of this particular story is that, if true, Liverpool are likely to have one of the best attacks in Europe and with Salah guaranteed to be in action for the Reds for the next two years, Slot is certain to have an elite attacking side again.
Now all Liverpool have to do is extend Virgil van Dijk’s deal and then they can navigate the upcoming transfer window and ensuing squad makeover. It’s a pity things are somewhat marred by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave but Liverpool have always got over stars leaving at their peak and that’s not likely to change.
With a Premier League title to celebrate if all goes well, the post-Jurgen Klopp era is mostly going according to plan.
