Liverpool are “very keen” on completing the signing of an impressive player in one of the future transfer windows, according to journalist Chris Williams.

The Reds couldn’t have asked for a much better summer in the transfer market, with Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak both breaking the British transfer record.

But the one disappointment when it came to new additions was missing out on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who was robbed of a move to Anfield late in the day.

Now, Williams was taken to X to claim that Liverpool are still “very keen” on signing the 25-year-old from the Eagles in the near future, hopefully granting him wish of his dream move:

“Liv offered Gomez with an option to buy, that was tuned down by Palace, Liv felt they’d compromised throughout; waiting for completion of UECL Qualifiers, fair fee during initial Aug negotiations. Still very keen on MG.”

Will Liverpool sign Guehi in the future?

This feels like a saga that will be revisited, either in the January transfer window or next summer, with Guehi clearly a player who those high up at Liverpool rate highly.

The England international would have been a perfect addition for the Reds, with Lee Carsley someone who has worked with him closely, waxing lyrical over him:

“I made Marc captain when I was in the under-21s. He’s a player who has shown leadership qualities throughout his career so far. His maturity [is clear] not only on the pitch but off the pitch. The fact that Marc is so calm and composed next to them [the debutants Tino Livramento and Harwood-Bellis] is brilliant. I think he’s had a really good camp. He’s playing really well at Palace in the games that I have seen and he’s moving in the right direction in terms of his quality.”

You have to feel for Guehi, who behaved impeccably amid doubts over his Palace future, only to get his move while others who misbehaved did, from Alexander Isak to Yoane Wissa.

Hopefully, this is just a brief spell that he has to wait before securing a move to Liverpool, with his contract at Selhurst Park expiring at the end of this season.
